Tim Barrow elected as UK ambassador to the EU

  • Sir T Barrow has been appointed as UK ambassador to the EU.
  • His appointment came after Ivan Rogers resigned from his post.
  • Barrow was appointed by the UK government on 4th January 2017.
  • Sir Tim has served as a representative to EU Security Association.
  • He has also served as the Ambassador to Western EU (European Union).
  • Sir Barrow is senior-level British diplomat.
  • He currently serves as Political Director of FCO board.
  • He also served as Britain’s Ambassador to the Ukraine (from 2006-2008).
  • The position of Ambassador to the EU is UK’s foremost EU diplomat.
  • The position is also head of UK representation to European Union.

  • Prof Gangmumei Kamei, eminent historian passed away
  • He died on 5th January 2017 at Manipur.
  • Kamei was famous for his northeast India related research work.
  • He was member of NEC (North Eastern Council).
  • He has written extensively on the History & culture of Northeast India.
  • Kamei was NEIHA (Northeast India History Association) President in 1986.
  • He has written many research books and papers.
  • Kamei has also been with many state & national cultural & social bodies.
  • He has been member of ASI & icssr Panel.
  • He received PJS (Platinum Jubilee Samman) in 2010.

350th Prakash Parv Celebrations started in Patna

  • 350th Prakash Parv Celebrations started in Patna
  • It for celebrating Guru Govind’s birth anniversary.
  • The 2017 celebrations is being hosted in Patna.
  • It is the birth city of Guru Govind, 10th Sikh Guru.
  • Main functions took place on 5th January 2017.
  • It was held at Patna’s Gandhi Maidan.
  • PM Modi, CM of Bihar PS Badal presided the event with many others.
  • 3-day holiday was announced at Takht-Harmandir Sahib.
  • Takht-Harmandir Sahib is a known Gurudwara in Patna.
  • It was constructed in memory of GGS (Guru Govind Singh).
  • Ranjit Singh, Sikh Empire’s first Maharaja, built this Gurudwara.
  • He was made Sikh leader at the age of nine.
  • Govind Singh founded Khalsa, Warrior community of the Sikh.
  • He also formed the 5 Ks or five faith articles wore by Khalsa Sikhs.

Padukone & Bindra past of Panel for NSDC

  • Union Ministry of Sports formed a 9-member panel on 5th January 2016.
  • It was for developing a NSDC (National Sports Development Code).
  • Aim is identifying universal good governance & ethics principles for sports.
  • Secretary of Sports Injeti Srinivas will chair the Committee.
  • Committee members include Prakash Padukone & Abhinav Bindra.
  • Padukone is a noted former badminton player from India.
  • Bindra is a professional shooter from India who won gold at 2008 Olympics.
  • Other members are Anju B George, Narinder Batra, Nandan Kamath etc.
  • Narinder is the FIH (International Hockey Federation) President.
  • It also includes Vijay Lokpally (sports journalist) & Bishweshwar Nandi.
  • Nandi is the Coach of Dipa Karmakar, Olympic Gymnast.
  • Committee also includes Onkar Kedia, joint secretary of sports
