  • Asim Basu, theatre personality passed away.
  • He died on 1st February after a long illness.
  • Basu has a son and two daughters.
  • He was associated with culture & art of Odisha.
  • He was known for his graphic & beautiful stage-craft direction.
  • Basu left home to study paintings in Kolkata.
  • His first work was as a book-cover designer.
  • He directed notable art films like Shodh (Hindi).
  • Basu also acted in movies like Dadagiri, Jaga Balia etc.
  • He has also directed more than 200 plays.
  • Basu received 2012 Parampara Samman.

  • He won the majority through Republican numbers.
  • This is Rex’s 1st appointment across any political office.

  • Rex will work towards implementing Trump’s policies.

UAE plans to launch first-ever Mars Mission

  • UAE plans to launch first-ever Mars Mission.
  • It aims to inaugurate the mission in 2020.
  • The mission will an unmanned orbiter ‘Hope’.
  • Launch will be from space centre at Japan.
  • Launch date will comply with alignment of Mars & Earth.
  • Both planets will be at their nearest point.
  • It will be 1sy Mars Mission by any Arab nation.
  • The orbiter will add more details on Mars climate.
  • Around 150 scientists & engineers will work on this project.
  • PDR (Preliminary Design Review) is already completed.
  • This project is financed & supported by Dubai’s Crown Prince.
  • ‘Hope’ will be compact & hexagonal-section spacecraft


19th BRM (Bharat Rang Mahotsav) started

  • 19th BRM (Bharat Rang Mahotsav) started.
  • It commenced at New Delhi on 1st February 2017.
  • The festival will continue for 21 days.
  • It is also called ITF (International Theatre Festival).
  • Different Indian theatre genres will be in focus.
  • Performance will be across various theatres in Delhi.
  • Artists from 12 nations will participate in the fest.
  • Some are from Turkey, Italy, Israel, Russia etc.
  • There will be 19 theatre & 15 foreign performances.
  • Fest will also have 10 traditional folk-theatre acts.
  • BR Mahotsav is a festival of NSD (National School of Drama).
  • It was formed in 1999.


Union Budget (2017): Agriculture Sector
